Aging skin: what really happens and how to slow it down naturally

Ikääntyvä iho: mitä oikeasti tapahtuu ja miten hidastaa sitä luonnollisesti

The skin begins to age in the late twenties. Collagen synthesis slows down by about 1% per year from the age of 20 onwards. Sebum production decreases. Cell renewal slows down.

The most visible signs of aging skin – wrinkles, dryness, lost elasticity – are mainly the result of two things: the decrease of collagen and elastin, and the weakening of the barrier.

Many anti-aging products contain retinol, vitamin A, vitamin C, or hydroxy acids. These are proven to be effective – they stimulate collagen production and accelerate cell renewal. But they can also be irritating for many, and they are not the only approach.

On the other hand: if the barrier is weak, even the best active ingredient won't work properly. The skin first needs adequate nourishment and protection before the active ingredients can do their job.

Sebum is rich in fat-soluble vitamins, especially vitamins A and E, which are naturally present in it. These are antioxidants that protect the skin from oxidative stress – one of the key mechanisms of aging.

Silky Sage is not an anti-aging cream in the traditional sense. It does not promise to diminish wrinkles or rejuvenate the skin. But it nourishes and supports the barrier in ways that biologically promote better skin function – even as it ages.
